The Safety Superhero Academy Announces Formation of New Advisory Group to Drive Phase 2 Development

The Safety Superhero Academy is proud to announce the launch of its newly formed Advisory Group, a team of leading professionals from education, safety, and inclusion sectors who will guide the Academy through the development of its ambitious Phase 2 offering for schools.

The Advisory Group held its first meeting this week, laying the foundations for an innovative suite of resources and programmes designed to embed safety awareness in the classroom while promoting social mobility and inclusivity.

Founded by chartered safety professional and award-winning author Bethany Holroyd, The Safety Superhero Academy works with primary schools to introduce safety concepts in an engaging and age-appropriate way. Using her bestselling children’s book, The Safety Superhero, as a catalyst for discussion, the programme inspires curiosity, introduces diverse STEM role models, and empowers children to proactively think about safety in everyday life.

Advisory Group Members

The new Advisory Group brings together a diverse range of expertise and lived experience:

Carly Hughes – Multi-award-winning Chartered Health & Safety Consultant, Trainer, and Business Owner of Immerse Safety. Carly is an IOSH Council Member, an ambassador for the National Federation of Builders, and a recognised voice in the safety industry. Her experience spans consultancy, training, and leadership, with multiple national accolades recognising her contribution to the profession.

Grace Maddox – An experienced Year 6 Teacher and Senior Leader with over a decade in primary education. Grace specialises in curriculum design, STEM and PSHE teaching, and inclusion. She brings deep insight into how learning materials are received in the classroom and how to adapt resources for different abilities and age groups, including those with SEND.

Sally Cowburn – Education Relationship Manager for the UK’s largest social mobility charity, with 17 years’ teaching experience. Sally is a champion of inclusion and accessibility, leading the design of a national work experience programme for young people with SEND and other additional needs. Her background in curriculum mapping, accessibility, and inclusive resource design will be instrumental in shaping the Academy’s future materials.

Driving Forward Phase 2

The Advisory Group will support the Academy in shaping Phase 2, which will expand its current school offer with:

  • Age-appropriate lesson plans for Early Years through to Key Stage 2

  • Teacher training to embed safety language and culture in the classroom

  • Interactive activities that make safety concepts memorable and fun

  • Representation of diverse role models to inspire the next generation of safety and STEM professionals

  • Inclusive resources to ensure accessibility for all pupils, including those with SEND

Founder and Director, Bethany Holroyd, said:

“I’m very proud to have such an incredible team supporting our mission. Their expertise, passion, and shared values will be vital as we move into Phase 2. Together, we’re building something truly special for schools across the UK – a programme that not only teaches children about safety but also inspires them to dream big, explore STEM careers, and believe in their potential.”

The Safety Superhero Academy aims to launch its Phase 2 offer early next year.
