The Safety Superhero Academy® joins regional leaders for Yorkshire & Humber CTEC launch
The Safety Superhero Academy® joined organisations from across construction, education and regional industry at the Royal Armouries in Leeds for the launch of the Yorkshire & Humber Construction Technical Excellence College (CTEC) Regional Delivery Plans.
Founder and Director Bethany and Delivery & Operations Coordinator Jill attended the event on Friday 11th September, marking Jill’s first industry event since joining The Safety Superhero Academy® team. Hosted by Leeds College of Building, the event brought together employers, colleges, independent training providers, strategic authorities and national partners to launch a shared regional vision for developing the skilled workforce needed to support housing, infrastructure and economic growth across Yorkshire & Humber.
The event had a particular connection for the Academy. Bethany is a proud Leeds College of Building alumna, having begun her career in construction, and remains passionate about supporting both the sector and the role of further education in developing its future workforce. During the afternoon, the team were particularly interested to hear about ambitions to increase engagement with primary schools and opportunities for teacher-industry exchange. Other themes included construction pedagogy, sustainability and green skills, SEND and neurodiversity, and inclusive teaching practice.
These areas have strong connections with The Safety Superhero Academy®’s work with children, educators and industry, and its mission to help children develop lifelong safety, health and wellbeing behaviours from an early age.

“As a Leeds College of Building alumna, it was brilliant to be back supporting an organisation that played an important part in the beginning of my own career in construction.I’m hugely passionate about further education and the role it plays in developing the people our industries need, but I was particularly excited to hear primary schools included within the conversation.”
“When we talk about the future workforce, we don’t have to wait until young people reach college, an apprenticeship or employment to start preparing them for it. Primary education gives us an incredible opportunity to help children develop their understanding of safety, health and wellbeing, build confidence around risk and decision-making, and introduce them to industries and opportunities they may otherwise never encounter.”
“If we want safer, healthier and more inclusive industries in the future, there is a real opportunity to start building those foundations in childhood.”
The programme included the Regional Delivery Plan launch, thought leadership and networking, providing an opportunity for organisations from across the region to connect around the future of construction skills. The afternoon also marked an exciting milestone for The Safety Superhero Academy® as its growing team continues to represent the organisation across education and industry.

“It was fantastic to attend my first industry event as Delivery & Operations Coordinator for The Safety Superhero Academy®. It was great to meet so many people working across construction, skills and education and to hear about the plans for the region.
“I’m really looking forward to attending more events, building relationships and supporting the Academy as we continue to grow.”
The Safety Superhero Academy® looks forward to continuing its relationship with Leeds College of Building and exploring opportunities to connect early education, industry and the wider skills agenda as part of its work to shape safer futures.
