NEBOSH joins The Safety Superhero Academy as Corporate Partner through Social Purpose Programme
The Safety Superhero Academy is proud to announce its acceptance onto the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) Social Purpose Programme - marking the beginning of a corporate partnership that will help shape the future of safety education in the UK.
The partnership will support the development and verification of a CPD-accredited online training course for primary educators, delivered through The Safety Superhero Academy’s Shaping Safer Futures® programme, to provide verification for our first e-learning course: Embedding Safety, Health and Wellbeing in the Classroom. We’re incredibly proud to share the course name, marking a major milestone for the Academy.
For founder Bethany Holroyd, this milestone represents more than recognition.
“We genuinely cannot believe that NEBOSH - a globally respected charity and awarding organisation - has chosen to support our work. This partnership signals that early cultural change in safety truly matters.”
Addressing a gap in early safety culture
While schools in the UK cover aspects of health, relationships and risk within the curriculum, there is currently no nationally consistent framework for introducing occupational safety and health (OSH) as a broader cultural mindset within primary education. Since 2020, Relationships Education and Health Education have been compulsory in state-funded schools in England. However, the wider PSHE curriculum remains non-statutory, and provision can vary between schools and regions. Sector bodies have acknowledged that delivery has historically been uneven, despite evidence that high-quality PSHE can positively influence wellbeing and pupil development.
The Safety Superhero Academy’s project seeks to complement existing provision by equipping educators with CPD-backed training to introduce age-appropriate safety, health and wellbeing concepts in a structured and sustainable way.
A collaborative approach
Through this partnership, NEBOSH will verify and support the development of a bespoke CPD-accredited online training course for educators. The course will equip teachers and school staff with the confidence to introduce age-appropriate safety, health and wellbeing concepts to primary-aged children.
The training draws on the story-led Safety Superhero framework as a practical example, with full classroom resources coming soon as part of The Safety Superhero Academy’s wider subscription offering. This ensures educators will have engaging, ready-to-use materials to support learning once they complete the course.
Measurable social impact
In its first year, the CPD-accredited training course aims to support 200 primary school teachers, with the potential to positively impact more than 5,200 pupils through subsequent classroom delivery. The course is designed to build educators’ confidence and capability in introducing age-appropriate safety, health and wellbeing concepts within everyday learning.
The training will be available to any educator working with primary-aged children, including home educators, teaching assistants and early years professionals across the UK. By strengthening safety literacy at an early stage, the initiative contributes to longer-term workforce awareness and helps challenge perceptions of health and safety careers in an age-appropriate way.
A shared vision
NEBOSH’s Social Purpose Programme supports initiatives that extend its impact beyond qualifications, particularly in areas where safety awareness is limited or underserved. This partnership represents a bold shift: moving safety from something we react to, towards something we grow up understanding.
Bethany Holroyd added:
“If we want safer workplaces in twenty years’ time, we have to start in today’s classrooms. With NEBOSH’s support, we are doing exactly that.”
END.
